Distance is a scalar quantity it's unit is (m)
Distance = Average speed × time
Displacement is the Distance moved in a constant direction. It is a vector quantity
Displacement = Average velocity × Time

Types Of Motion

1. Oscillatory or vibrational motion: This is a to and fro move, movement of a particle about a fixed point e.g motion of simple pendilum

2. Rotational Motion: Motion of a particle round a point e.g rotation of the earth about its axis or motion of the earth round the sun.

3. Translational Motion: Motion of a body from point to another e.g a car moving , a plane flying

4. Random Motion: This is the motion is the movement of an object in zig-zag form e.g a person movig through a crowded market.

Types Of Forces

1. Contract forces: pushing, pulling, reaction, frictional and tentional forces.

2. Field forces: Gravitational, electric and magnet force.

Friction



Friction is the ratio that opposes the motion between two surfaces in contract and moving relative to each other.

Advantage Of Friction

It help in locomotion (walking, applying brakes, climbing) friction belt, grindstone and banging objects are made to function.

Disadvantages Of Friction

It reduces efficiency, tear and wear of machines and brings about reduction in motion.

Ways Of Reducing Friction

1. Lubricating with oil and grease
2. Using ball bearings and rovers
3. Using pencil and polystyrene
4. Streaming shapes of boats, ship, sub marines and aeroplanes.
5. Bamcing in reduction of side ways friction.
