France Has Ordered Oil Refinery WorkersTo Call Off Their Strike
The French government ordered the workers of the oil refinery in Normandy to return to work as it tries to prevent a strike over wages due to the shortage of oil in the country.
The government spokesman, Oliver Véran, said that Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne's order applies to the Port-Jérôme oil refinery, but the necessary measures can also be applied to the second oil refinery in Dunkirk.
"The impact of the labor crisis is a problem for many French people," Véran said, stressing that people will find it difficult to travel, go to work, shop or send their children to school.
About a third of France's petrol stations are running out of fuel after a two-week strike.
Drivers line up or drive to other towns to find gas.
Six of the country's 7 oil refineries faced a strike at the same time as the CGT union of France is trying to increase wages by 10 percent in all the oil refineries of the Total Energy company.
