Release New Naira Note or I will Confiscate Your License According to the Borno Governor - Zulum

The governor of Borno state in the north-east of Nigeria, Babagana Umara Zulum, has warned commercial banks in the state that his government will revoke the land license of any bank that fails to insert new naira notes into ATM machines.

The BBC reported that the governor gave the warning on Friday in Maiduguri when he visited to see for himself the long queues and hardships people are facing due to the lack of new currency notes. "Any bank that does not intend to fill its ATM with new bills to ease the hardships of the community, we will seize its building site immediately," said the governor in a statement issued by his spokesman Isa Gusau.

The statement said that Governor Zulum was saddened when he found a long line to withdraw money, where only one ATM was working out of 10 there. "As you can see, there are only poor people on the line... It is said that some have been here since 3:00 in the night, some have not even eaten anything. The new money and the old money are all gone, which is affecting business. with restrictions on people," said Zulum.

The governor added that when he went to Gubio Local Government, he found that there was no N100,000 in the entire local government of old or new money.
