Yoruba Civil War And Its Consequences
The collapse of old oyo Empire as well as the persistent attacks and incursions into the area by the newly established emirates of Ilorin and nupe brought about serious repercussions on yoruba land.
People were forced to move southwards to the forested areas in seach of security, mass movement of people their settlement created dislocation for their brothers, Consequently civil war broke out particularly in central and southern part of oyo.
It was refugees' activities and that of their leaders who were sometimes war-mongers that brought about conflict leading to open confrontations wars. Some of notable wars include Owu-life, Ife-Modakeke, Ibadan-Ijaye, Ibadan-Ilorin e.t.c.
The various wars fought in yoruba land produced the following consequences.
• Lost of lives and properties as well as enslavement.
• Destruction of many villages, towns and cities.
• Refugees problems becouse of people's search for security.
• Emargence of new settlements and their transformation into major towns and cities,
Examples are Ibadan, Sagamu, Abeokuta, Oshogob, Ogbomosho e.t.c.
• Modification of Yoruba lineage system in which people choose to stay together without any regard to their different lineages.
• The movement of oyo people to other parts of yoruba land led to the spread of their culture.

The internal and external problems all combined to bring about the collapse of the old Oyo Empire.persistent attacks on oyo notably from Ilorin and Nupe Emirates created serious dislocation people were forced to move en-masse to secured areas of southwest and centaral part of yoruba land.
The refugee and warlike attitude some leaders brought about the escalation of crises and civil war Yoruba land that lasted for about 70 years. The war produced both socio-economic and political consequences, the culminationof which was the subjugation of the area by Europeans at the end of 19th century.
